As a lover of the ocean, and the water in general, I decided it was finally time to take a dive into reef safe sunscreens. I always am so passionate about protecting what I love, and part of that is being aware of the products going onto my body and in turn into our waterways! I tried out a whole bunch of different reef safe sun care options and here they are!
I made my way to the Lake for sunrise yesterday. It had been a while and I’m so glad that I did. It was a beautiful mid week pick me up. As always, the Lake brought me a large dose of inspiration and creativity. Here’s a few words I strung together.
What is the Water Lovers Watch list? It’s a collections of movies, documentaries, short films, YouTube series etc. that are water centered. Some are about surfing, others are about conservation and some are just about beautiful connections to water! With June 8th having been World Oceans Day, I figured now was a perfect time to share the first list!
Most surfs on the lake come with low air temperatures, low water temperatures and a bit of ice. Most people call me crazy, but it’s okay I get it, braving the cold is fairly crazy. I figured I share a little blurb I wrote in my journal back in December after a lovely little sunset surf, I think it helps show why I love my winter lake surfs and why we lake surfers brave the cold.
How did you get into surfing? A fairly common question I get when meeting new people and the honest answer is, I don’t really remember. There wasn’t this one moment that I remember being introduced to surfing. I don’t remember my first wave. Looking back, I suppose that’s because my love for surfing formed and evolved over time.
It’s one of those days that made her happy. One of those days that would be stashed in her memory for a rainy day. She was grateful.
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't still daydreaming of the perfect (and warm by October lake standards) lake surf I had a little over a week ago! Clean lines with varying sizes and speeds made for a perfect day to work on my surf skills!
I am so lucky, along with so many other people, to live along the shores of Lake Michigan. I feel a little extra lucky that the beach closest to my heart and to my home is a certified Blue Wave beach.
This past weekend my family and I headed out to New Jersey for Sea.Hear.Now music festival, because if you know my parents you know it's hard for them to ignore a fun, different opportunity to see Dave Matthews Band.
You protect what you love and one thing I love a lot is Lake Michigan. I am so grateful to have what many refer to as the “third coast” in my backyard!
I had this itch when I woke up yesterday morning to get in the water. Not caring whether there were 3ft waves or nothing more than a ripple on the lakes surface, I threw a short board in my car and headed to the water.
Here in the Wisconsin, Spring is finally starting to make it's way back into our lives. I will be the first to tell you, I could not be more excited. I thrive off of rising temperatures and sunshine, it makes me a much better human.
Not all swim suits are created equal. If you are like me, you have bikinis dedicated to lounging at the pool or the beach and then you have bikinis dedicated to activities in the water.
While my dad and I were on our little surf trip in Jacksonville, we had one day with no waves. When Friday came and we had no waves we decided to jump in the car and road trip down to Juno Beach.
I love playing in the water, be it the ocean or the lake. Surfing, paddle boarding, snorkeling, diving, all of them sound like the makings of an amazing day to me! My hair however, is a bit of a different story.
A couple of weeks ago my dad and I flew down to Jacksonville, FL for a quick little surf trip. Why Jacksonville? During my brief stint in college, I went to school in Jacksonville and my family and I kind of fell in love with it.
The beach is basically my favorite place ever. Most of my trips or vacations are based around the beach be it for surfing, the oceans creatures, or just lounging with my people.
The button down: This super light weight button down was a thrifting fine and quickly turned into my favorite beach cover-up.
A couple of rad little, summer lake surf days have been the perfect reminder of why I love to surf so much!
On our last day of Spring Break, my parents and I took a nice long beach walk to look for shells. While we did find lots of shells we also found lots of glass.
Here's some film shots from Spring break in the Keys this year. Mostly I took pictures of the sunsets but theres a few cute ones of people too!
While down in the Keys I put together a little list of my essentials for when I am spending my days in the sun and on the beach. I thought I might as well share it since the count down to summer here at home is in full swing!
There's an ocean inside of her, it’s current drawing her home to where the salt met the sand. There's an ocean inside of her, it’s current drawing her home to where the sound of surf was soothing.
It's cold today. Like really cold. Like 16 degrees fahrenheit with a real feel of 3 degrees cold. And it looks like it is going to stay really cold, and maybe snowy, during the coming week.
I will be the first to admit, I don't turn down a straw when out to eat. I request a straw with my coffee at Starbucks to try and keep my temporary fake teeth from staining.
There are some places that make you feel instant contentment and happiness when you arrive. There's some places that just always feel like home. One of those places for me is Juno Beach.
My dad has some cool friends and his cool friends have some cool toys. While in Colorado this summer, I inherited an old school GoPro Hero. So old school, that it is a film camera.
After my enjoyment snapping pictures on disposable cameras, I decided to scope out a film camera. Lucky for me, a friend had one I could have, a Canon Sure Shot Telemax.
On our last night in the Keys the sky put on the most amazing show of colors as the sun went down. As we did every night, we all gathered on our dock to watch the sun slip under the horizon.
I was recently scrolling through all the notes on my phone and clearing out the ones no longer needed. In doing so I stumbled upon a few little blurbs I wrote, most of them thoughts that were caught in a moment and meant to get transferred into my journal. I really liked this one, that must have been written at some point near some sort of choppy body of water, and figured why not share. Hope you enjoy this sweet little blurb!
