Art Day

I have this tendency to forget about things that make me happy. Today though, I spent the majority of the day rediscovering one of those things-painting. Art in general always makes me so happy, so why is it I always forget how much I enjoy it? Well, I went through a few canvases and even ran out and bought some more (okay, a lot more). The goal: not go so long again without creating things.

The main piece I worked on today was a mixed medium piece inspired by my missing South Africa. So, I took a photo I took in South Africa and turned it into a painting. As much as I wish I could say I free handed the elephant the reality is I took the photo, attached it to the canvas, and then used paint to give it some dimension. I am honestly in love with how it turned out and am thinking about making a few more to go along with it.

The other two pieces I made were just a bit of experimentation. The first was made with sharpie and then filled in with paint. I don't think that this piece is quite finished yet, I want to add a quote of some sort but haven't decided what yet.

The last piece I made was really just a quick little painting of a few things I love: the beach, palm trees, and my surf board. I did this in about 10 min; I think of it as a doodle.

While my bedroom floor was a perfectly fine place to paint these, Im thinking of actually cleaning off my desk (because you currently cannot see the surface of it) so I have somewhere to paint where I can actually sit in a chair and have good light, oh and so I dont wreck my neck...
