Things to Change Your Mindset
We've all been there. We wake up some mornings and just feel... blah. Sometimes we wake up and are just in a funk. Sometimes we let things that happen during our day bring us down and we just can't shake it. It happens. There are ways, though, to turn your own day around and they are super easy.
Gratitude
If you can, write it out, if not take a moment to rattle off a list in your head of 5 things you are grateful for. It doesn't have to be some extravagant, poetic list. Sunshine, your morning cup of coffee, your favorite t-shirt, having a loving group of people surrounding you, waking up in the morning. Just a quick list, I promise its an instant mood booster.
Take care of your physical self
Get your body moving. Drink some water. Eat some veggies. Take a shower. Throw on your favorite outfit, maybe that's leggings and your favorite cropped hoodie or maybe it's a graphic tee and jeans that fit just right. Hey, maybe even throw on some red lipstick (really, who doesn't feel confident and unstoppable with a good red lip?) When you feel good and put together on the outside, it is so much easier to feel the same way on the inside!
Spend some time in nature
Get outside, take a deep breath of fresh air, and bask in the sunshine. Slow down and appreciate the natural beauty that is surrounding you that you may not always take the time to notice. Enjoy what Mama Earth has to offer! She's got something for everyone, I'm personally a fan of the water. Dive in the ocean, run in the rain, float in the lake, sit and listen to the waves as they come in to hug the shore. Find the place that makes your heart happy and go there!
Be barefoot
Okay, maybe this is just me, but being barefoot is one of my happiest states (ask any of my parents employees- I could always be found walking around the office barefoot, no matter the season.) I recommend pairing this one with what I said about getting into nature. It's hard to feel too upset when you get to dig your toes into the sand (or the grass or a trail if that's more your style.)
Puppies
I feel this is pretty self explanatory, it's hard not to smile when being attacked by puppy kisses. After all, there's a reason why so many colleges bring pups onto campus during finals week!
A positive mindset isn't just a given. You must actively make the choice to look for the little, good things. You must actively make the choice to speak kind words. You must actively make the choice to shut down the negative thoughts that creep into your head. Mindset is something that takes a constant, conscious effort to keep positive. Sometimes you'll fail, but we are all human after all. Just keep trying, as with all things the more you practice the easier it becomes.
