Journaling
After a few weird weeks, I finally realized it's time to get back into the hang of journaling. It was my saving grace last year while I was struggling abroad and it’s time to bring this tool back into my arsenal.
I don’t have any specific approach to journaling really, just dumping my thoughts onto a page. I write what’s bugging my, why I may think I feel off, what I could maybe do to help, ponder why I feel like a can’t move forward. Really I just ramble a lot.
I’m really good at journaling when I’m feeling crappy, but I want to become consistent and record the happy, exciting, special moments too. Because feeling those things is amazing, writing about them feels amazing again, and being able to look back at them is amazing once again.
Another reason I’m becoming best friends with my journal again? It really helps get my creative juices flowing. Something about putting a pen to paper, even if it is when I’m feeling down, helps me to feel lighter and spark some ideas and ideas are important when it comes to coming up with things to share on a blog.
I think some of the funk recently has come from hitting a bit of a creative road block. So much of what I love, and what inspires me to create is sunshine, warm weather, summer, travel and the beach and my current season of life is void of a lot of those things. I’m starting to see that stepping away from a screen and key board and creating in other ways-writing, film photos, doodles- is going to be what I need to do to keep the creativity flowing in what I guess I will consider my “off-season”.
So, I’m bringing my journal pretty much everywhere now. It is finding a home in my work/computer bag because that bag is with me most of the time.
